Basic InformationJoin Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge staff on a Howling Safari for an unforgettable evening! Learn about endangered red wolves, found only in the wilds of northeastern North Carolina, and get the chance of a lifetime to hear their harmonious howls. Meet at Creef Cut Wildlife Trail at the intersection of Milltail Road and Highway 64 (approximately 15 minutes from Manteosee map at bottom of this page, or click here for specific directions). A reservation is required for each group that would like to attend a howling. You can register online by clicking on the "Register" graphic below. DirectionsMeet at Creef Cut Wildlife Trail at the intersection of Milltail Road and Highway 64. Creef Cut is located approximately 15 minutes from Manteo. The GPS coordinates for this site are 35º 51.8' north latitude/75º 51.4' west longitude.
From the westApproximately seven miles from the bridge over Alligator River, on Highway 64 East, the refuge entrance is on the right. A sign for Milltail Road will be on the left and a Creef Cut Trail sign is on right. From the eastApproximately five miles over the Virginia Dare Bridge, on Highway 64 West Bypass, the Refuge entrance is on the left. The sign for Milltail Road is also on your right, before you see the Creef Cut Trail sign on your left. From Nags Head/Kill Devil HillsTake Highway 158 South to the Highway 64 West Bypass. Cross the Virginia Dare Bridge and continue traveling east through Manns Harbor. Creef Cut is approximately five miles over the bridge on the left, on Highway 64 West. |
